University of Michigan Alumni Association

Give Back. Get Involved.

Do you enjoy planning events? Meet new Alumni and steer what we do!

The UM Club of LA is currently looking for volunteers to help plan events for our committees. If you have a few extra hours a month and would like to get involved, consider becoming a volunteer! We look for new board members in the Spring of each year, but volunteers are always welcome!

We're currently looking for a club secretary, but other committee needs include:  social, careers, community service and lifelong learning.

U of M Club of Los Angeles
Michigan Professionals

CURRENTLY POSTPONED.

Michigan Professionals was conceived as a way to bring together Michigan alums in the professional world to facilitate business networking in a no-frills, no-fluff environment.  This is not a social event for aimless schmoozing or trying to plan a lunch that might or might not happen.  It's a goal-directed business event aimed specifically at increasing your professional business network and your bottom line through cross-referrals.  If you happen to make some social contacts or friends as a result of the meeting, all the better, but the goal here is to cross-refer business to other Michigan alums who you get to know and trust, and in so doing, keep things "in the family".

Your membership provides you access to the Century City group, the Downtown Los Angeles group, and all other groups that are created in the future.

The Century City group will meet the second Wednesday of each month at McDermott, Will & Emery, LLP, 2049 Century Park East, 38th Floor, Los Angeles.

The Downtown Los Angeles group will meet the fourth Tuesday of each month at Pillsbury Winthrop, 725 S. Figueroa St., Suite 2800, Los Angeles.  Meetings start promptly at 7:00 a.m., so please arrive on time.  Breakfast will be served.

Member cost $60 for six consecutive meetings
Member cost $120 for twelve consecutive meetings

Non-member cost $400 annual ($280 is donated to the Los Angeles Scholarship fund to help a local student attend Michigan)

If you have questions, please contact Bradley Davis, bradley.davis@roberthalf.com

Students

Are you a student in the LA area who was recently admitted to the University of Michigan? The Alumni Club of LA supports two events for here in Southern California sponsored by the Alumni Association in Ann Arbor:

1. Admitted Student Reception - A great chance to get every question you or your parents have about the University of Michigan answered by alumni living in LA. Look out for this event in May/June.

2. Student Send-off - Once you decide on attending the University of Michigan, this is a fantastic event to meet other students before you head off to Ann Arbor! Look out for this event in August.

Student Recruiting

The University of Michigan is built on a strong tradition of academic excellence. Alumni volunteers help maintain that tradition by encouraging academically talented students to apply to and attend the U-M.

As an Alumni Student Recruiter (ASR), you provide the one-on-one interaction, personal attention and encouragement that can make the difference between a student choosing Michigan or another school. Providing your perspective as a U-M alumnus/a is the most important part of the program.

Many LA-area high schools are available for volunteers to "adopt". For more information, see the Alumni Association website.
