University of Michigan Alumni Association

A very important program run by the U-M Club of Tucson is its Scholarship Fund, which recognizes and assists Tucson area high school seniors who enroll at the University of Michigan.  As you can appreciate, Tucson area students enrolling at the U-M need all the assistance they can get.  Currently, out-of-state tuition alone is over $45,000 per year, and with room/board, fees and books totals almost $60,000. This program needs the support of all U-M Club members. Our Club’s policy has been to award a one-time scholarship to students who: 1) Are admitted by the UM;  2) Actually enroll at U-M;  3) Apply to our Club and successfully pass a screening review.

Thanks to the generosity of our club members, in 2017 we were able to award scholarships to three deserving Tucson high school seniors who are attending Michigan as freshman in the fall of 2017.

We are proud to present our 2017 Scholarship Recipients:

Dilyn Reese Grabell

Dilyn Grabell 2017

Dilyn graduated with High Honors from BASIS Tucson North High School in 2017. In high school, she received several academic recognitions and worked in a laboratory focused on pancreatic cancer research, volunteered for a non-profit organization that supports students with lupus and was involved in the National Honor Society. She is very excited to attend Michigan and experience everything the school has to offer. Dilyn is currently planning to pursue a major in Economics, but is also looking forward to exploring new fields of study.

Mark Andrew (Drew) Hirselj

Drew Hirselj 2017

Drew graduated from Catalina Foothills in May 2017. At Michigan, he is an intramural soccer referee and is being interviewed to become a campus day tour guide. Drew reports his classes have been going well, and he's looking forward to declaring that he is a Computer Science major next year. He is going to be participating in Winter Rush for Greek Life, and is a member of the climbing club. Drew chose Michigan because of the immense school pride and the legacy of the college of engineering, and after being there for a month, he knows he made the right decision!
