We are pleased to present our 2016 Club Scholarship recipients:
Justin graduated from Catalina Foothills High School in 2016. Currently, he is involved in the U-M’s badminton club, attending weekly training and local tournaments. He is also a heavily involved member of Living Arts, a living/learning community that brings together students from the arts, engineering, architecture, and other fields to explore creativity through collaboration. Now he is pursuing a joint degree within the school of Art and Design and LSA. He’s not sure where this path will ultimately take him, but he’s excited to find out nonetheless.
Rachel Levy (center, with friends cheering on the Wolverines)
Rachel graduated from University High School in Tucson in May, 2016. She reports that she is having a most amazing time at the U of M. She is a new member of the Delta Gamma sorority. She is loving all of the many amazing philanthropic, social, and leadership-oriented opportunities at Michigan. Additionally, she has joined the Sirens A Capella group which allows her to indulge her love of music and has given her a vibrant and talented community to be a part of. Her first semester of classes have been challenging, but exciting and she is searching for the best study spot on campus. Her current plan is to double major in Organizational Studies and Political Science. Rachel declares that deciding to Go Blue is the best decision she has ever made.
Our Club's 2015 Scholarship recipient:
Erica moved to Tucson in 2012 from New Jersey and graduated with High Honors from BASIS Tucson North. She has received several academic recognitions and is also active in her church and volunteer activities. Her decision to attend U-M was influenced by the passion she sees in students and alumni she has met who express their pride in being Wolverines.
And Before That....
The 2014 recipient was:
Jessica is a graduate of Catalina Foothills High School where she excelled academically (4.0+ GPA) and participated in varsity softball as well as other extra-curriculars. She has also volunteered at the Humane Society of Southern Arizona. Jessica cited the alumni support system as one of the reasons for choosing U-M, where she plans to study Biomedical Engineering.
Our two 2013 scholarship recipients were:
Jantzen is a 2013 graduate of Canyon del Oro High School. Along with her academic ambitions (she graduated with a 3.92 GPA), Jantzen actively participated in varsity sports, including track and field, swimming, and diving. Jantzen plans to pursue a career in law; as such, she plans to major in political science while at U-M. Jantzen spent the summer of 2013 in Ann Arbor attending the Bridge Program—she took various courses while living in the Mosher-Jordan residence hall. She absolutely loves living in Ann Arbor and meeting her classmates. She has expressed her sincere gratitude for the scholarship, as well as how happy she is to be a Wolverine!
Rachel graduated from Tanque Verde High School, where she was her class’s valedictorian. Rachel will begin at U-M this fall as a biomedical engineering major. Her interest in engineering has been present throughout her high school studies—she was a KEYS intern with the University of Arizona’s College of Pharmacy and Department of Medical Imaging. As an intern, she participated in a large-scale research study—the title of her study was “Drug Delivery Across the Blood-Brain Barrier Using Focused Ultrasound and Microbubbles”. Rachel is a very ambitious and accomplished student already, and will continue to find success at U-M! She is very excited to join the close-knit, passionate Wolverine community!
Our 2012 recipient was Caitlin Kelly. Caitlin is a graduate of St. Gregory College Preparatory School in Tucson with a 3.84 cumulative GPA. She is an avid writer and poet who has already written a book and is seeking a publisher, hence she plans on continuing her love of writing with a creative writing major. Caitlin has been active in her high school's drama department as well as French and poetry clubs. Caitlin's passion, aside from writing and the performing arts, is competing horses in a sport called Three Day Eventing; she has participated in this sport her entire life and plans on continuing throughout her time at U-M (yes, she is bringing her horse to Ann Arbor!) to eventually make it to the Olympics. At Michigan, Caitlin will be a member of the Residential College learning community where she will hone her creative writing and French language skills. In conjunction with creative writing, she plans on taking a second major or a minor in economics.
Our 2010 scholarship recipient was Maggie Lee, a graduate of University High School in Tucson, with a 4.16 GPA, four years of varsity tennis, Science Olympiad, hospital volunteer, and much more. She is majoring in finance and business economics at the U-M Ross School of Business.
Our 2009 scholarship went to Jessica Larson, a graduate of Catalina Foothills High School, with many extracurricular activities. She is majoring in Art History, in order to pursue a career as curator of art museums.
Our 2008 scholarship recipient was Elizabeth Kennedy, a Biochemistry Honors student, a graduate of Catalina Foothills High School, and a transfer to the U-M from Northwestern after her freshman year.
In 2007 we had 6 local area high school graduates who enrolled at U-M, applied for scholarships, and passed the screening. The Board had to dip into the Scholarship Endowment Fund principal to award each of the six students a scholarship.
