University of Michigan Alumni Association

Fundraising Campaign - 2017

Each year, many highly qualified students from San Diego County either do not apply to Michigan or decline their acceptance due to the prohibitive out-of-state cost.  The current scholarship fund-raising campaign aims to double the local endowment so that no outstanding county student must decline a UM acceptance due to cost.  Due to the far-sighted generosity of local alumni, we recently increased our endowment funds from $300,000 to $500,000.  With your help, we will raise an additional $500,000 by 2017 in honor of the University’s bicentennial.  By doubling our endowment, the University of Michigan can be a financial reality to the country’s future Leaders and Best!

With these funds, we intend to offer at least one recurring scholarship that pays the difference between Michigan out-of-state tuition and California in-state tuition.  Many prospective students are turned away from Michigan due to the high cost and the relative affordability of schools in California. When competing strictly on merit – Michigan will continue to attract the best and the brightest.

100% of the funds donated to our scholarship fund go directly into our endowment funds and can be used only for scholarships for students from San Diego County high schools attending Michigan.  Our club’s endowment funds are pooled with all of the other Michigan endowment funds and professionally managed by the University.  All donations made are a part of your University giving record and will be acknowledged by the University as tax-deductible.
