Thanks From a Grateful Student

Dear University of Michigan Club of Greater Northville,

In 2009 I was a recipient of one of the University of Michigan Club of Greater Northville's scholarships for incoming freshmen. Today I am a senior, with an Honors Independent Concentration in Asymmetric Conflict and Middle Eastern Studies.

As my time at the University of Michigan comes to a close, I am reminded of your scholarship lunch I attended only 3 short years ago -- back when my future at this University was uncertain, and my plans still in nascent. Last year I was a recipient of the Harry S. Truman Scholarship, a national scholarship awarded to 55 college juniors each year.

Last year, I was selected out of a pool of more than 600 applicants nationwide. This scholarship, totaling $30,000, is awarded to students who plan to pursue a career in public service. In my case, I plan to enter the Foreign Service. After I graduate from Michigan, the Truman Foundation will aid in my admission to graduate programs and then provide financial support.

I am so very grateful for the support I received from the University of Michigan Club of Greater Northville all those years ago. When I couldn't see the potential I had to do good at this University, the University of Michigan Club did.

Today, I can confidently say that I have achieved everything I had hoped to when I first opened my acceptance letter to this wonderful university. I cannot thank the University of Michigan Club enough for supporting and encouraging me to chase these dreams the last four years. Though I was just a wide-eyed freshman in 2009, the University of Michigan Club saw the potential to do great things -- for that, I am eternally grateful. I wish the University of Michigan Club of Greater Northville all the best in the months to come.

In a few months, I will be proud to call myself an alumnus of this fantastic institution. I look forward to reconnecting with the club at that time!

Warmest Regards, Tyler Jones
